We had a 3 day weekend and decided at the last minute to hike up to the mint hut for Martin Luther King day. It was dark by the time we hit the trail.

We knew we were going to snow camp. Luckily the temperatures have been unusually warm for January. We snuggled in for the night just a few miles away from the hut.
As we were hiking the dark we ran into three other mountaineers who were trying to make it to the hut. They actually ended up bivouacing!!! We felt very grateful to have a tent!
The next morning. The hardest part about snow camping is putting on frozen ski boots!

This was after a few hours of hiking. The sun finally poked above the mountains and it was magical.
We have a million pictures of the hut, but I literally can't help but continue to take hundreds of pictures every time I see it.

We ended up sharing the hut with three other mountaineers who had hopes of ice climbing. We beat them to the hut, dropped off some gear and headed out to ski a run and watch the sunset.

The snow was so good we decided to wake up early for an extra sunrise ski run before the long slog back to the car. It was cool to see how different the light was at sunset and sunrise. The sun was spilling across the mountains right before we headed down.

Skiing with a 50 pound pack is hard! The powder was incredible through here.
