A hike up Hatcher's. Ben had some family friends in Homer who were nice enough to let us borrow thier sea kayaks so we headed to the Kenai for some kayaking in Katchemak Bay.
Our Water Taxi out to the Humpy creek on the other side of the bay.
Just a short hike to the Yurt we stayed in back in the woods.
A good place for a nest.
America!
Katchemak Bay can have 30 foot tides some days, second only to the Bay of Fundi, so caves like this one appear and disappear during the course of the day.
A good spot for lunch.
We took a hike to the Grewingk glacier the next day. Mary Jane's trying to cross Humpy creek without getting wet.
Luckily the park service had a hand tram for those trying to cross the river coming off the glacier.
The Grewingk glacier
At low tide the ocean is about a mile further out than at high tide so we had to ride our gear and kayaks down humpy creek to get picked up by our water taxi.
We made the long drive back from Homer in time to pick up the first of Kristen's family.
We had a relaxing first night at chez divis.
Jay photobombing his own picture.
A good start to everyone's Alaskan adventure.
The next day we set out for Talkeetna to take the flight tour of Denali and land at Denali Base camp.
We started off in the clouds but came out of them as we worked our way up the Kahiltna glacier.
Looking up the Kahiltna with Denali looming in the distance.
Mount Foraker with the massive crevasses of the Kahiltna.
Coming out of the clouds looking back.
If you look at the tiny specs smack dab in the middle of the picture above, that is high camp for those waiting for the final push to summit Denali.
Denali! Highest point in North America.
Denali Base camp as we come in for our landing on the glacier.
Jay seems right at home.
Kristen and I with Mount Foraker in the background.

Our plane taking off.
Very surreal flying above the ancient glaciers and giant mountains.
A cool prayer yurt at the airfield in talkeetna for climbers.
Ok that's all for now, but we have three more weeks of material to post. We hung out around the Mat-Su valley for a week then picked up motor homes and headed to the Kenai for a week. Then Jay, Nate and Kristen got flown into the Wrangell's for a backpacking trip that was pretty epic so check back soon!!
